Founded in 1887, the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC) represents 2300 members living or working in the District of Columbia. The fifth largest AIA Chapter in the country, AIA|DC was intimately involved in the design and planning of Washington, and continues to play an active role in city development today.  In 2011 the Chapter opened the District Architecture Center which serves a place to celebrate architecture and educate the public through exhibitions and other events on covering architecture, urbanism, and the built environment.
