In keeping with Artisphere’s tradition of giving visitors a window into the artistic process, Arlington-based photographer Yassine El Mansouri will conducted an experimental photoshoot in Artisphere’s Black Box during the last week in August. Visitors to Artisphere were invited to peer into the space from the observation window above during Phase 1 of Observation001.
Phase 1 of Observation001 is an open experiment that examines the participants’ relationship to their respective wardrobes. Subjects are invited to assemble their entire collection of clothes, which will be organized by the artist on the floor of The Black Box underneath a camera mounted from the room’s ceiling. Items closest to the camera frame’s center will be those worn most frequently by the participant. Observation001constructs a portrait of the subject by placing him or her in the center of their wardrobes. This approach highlights the interplay between subject and vestments and how the two come to define one another. By visually documenting the choices a subject has made in retaining certain clothing items as well as the frequency with which he or she wears them, Observation001 will offer a uniquely intimate portrait of both person and personality.
Phase 2 of Observation001 will be an exhibition of the final photographs projected onto Artisphere’s Town Hall Video Wall as well as a timelapse of the project. Come to Artisphere's Town Hall by November 30 to view these incredible photos.
